Henderson is located just minutes from the Las Vegas Strip and McCarran International Airport, in the southeast corridor of the Las Vegas valley. Henderson now has a population of more than 350,000; it has been one of the fastest growing cities in the southwest for the past 10 years.
Henderson is known as being one of the younger cities in the growing southwest, and for the past 20 years the city of Henderson has grown as a result of a great partnership between business and city leaders. The city of Henderson was chartered in 1965 as a Council and Manager form of government; the Mayor and City Council address legislative issues facing the city. There are 4 City Council members representing residents within distinct wards, who are elected at large. The City Manager is appointed by the City Council to administer the city’s organization.
Redevelopment in Henderson has been a major factor in its popularity and growth. The Water Street District is one of the most popular mixed use project, with an arts community, office space, restaurants, retail shops and entertainment. At the center of Water Street District is the Henderson Events Plaza Amphitheater, which hosts performances and concerts for the Henderson Cultural Arts and Tourism Department. The Plaza shows have brought more than 65,000 people to Water Street since it began in 2006. The Water Street District is also home to 3 casinos, lounges and entertainment venues.

Henderson Parks and Recreation Department is known for many special programs, including Project Green/Pittman Wash Habitat Restoration Project, The Henderson Bird Preserve, dog parks, a Parks and Walking Trail System, Youth Sports Programs and Cultural Arts Programs.
Project GREEN (Green Valley Ecology, Environment and Nature) is a 2.5 mile habitat restoration program located within an underdeveloped and unprotected natural area that carries floodwater from the mountains south of Henderson, to the Las Vegas Wash, and into Lake Meade.
